FAQ's

Q: I have ants in my house. Now what?

A: The first thing you should do if you have ants in your home is to quickly remove the factors that are drawing them in. Sweep up fallen crumbs in your kitchen and clear excess water around your home in places like sinks and trash cans. Do not use store-bought ant sprays. These products act as repellents, forcing the ants to move into new areas of your home. Instead, try spraying household cleaner where the ants are most active for temporary relief.

Q: What kind of ants do I have?

A: There are several types of ants (pavement ants and odorous house ants) that are common invaders for New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents. Small black ants that are less than ¼ inch are typically referred to as “nuisance ants.” These types of ants are what you would usually find in kitchens and bathrooms, mostly during warm weather months but also year round.

Are you seeing large black ants that are larger than ¼ inch? You are probably seeing carpenter ants which are not covered by the 90 Day Ant Service. However, Cooper does provide both preventative and reactive service to combat carpenter ant infestations at residential homes. Please call us at 1-800- 949- 2667 to learn more about our carpenter ant programs.

Q: Why do I have ants?

A: The most common reasons you may have ants are due to fallen crumbs or spills not cleaned up, unsealed trash containers, window screens and doorways that are not properly sealed, and other small entry points around the exterior of your home. Ants enter homes in search of food and water. They will multiple and stay when they find these sources.

Q: How does Cooper control the ants in my home?

A: Once our state-certified technician visits your home, they will inspect for potential entry points and food sources that are drawing the ants into your home. After gathering this information, they create a customized approach to ant control. In order to create a protective barrier around your home, the technician will apply treatments to the exterior foundation of your home. In addition, gel baiting will be placed in discrete areas where ant activity is high indoors. Common placements for gel bait include window frames, pipe chases, and base boards.

The technician will explain where the treatments will be applied and why while at your home. At Cooper we will always provide complete transparency. Our trained staff has extensive pest biology and behavior training as well as thorough knowledge about the physical treatments as far as their chemical makeup and effectiveness.

Q: Can the treatment harm my kids or pets?

A: Upon arrival, the technician will locate the most appropriate places to apply gel baits so that they are not visible and challenging for pets and kids to reach. Your kids and pets will not interact with our exterior treatments after it has dried. Typical drying time is less than one hour, depending upon weather. All of our pesticides and materials are applied strictly according to label and are low toxicity. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask your technician.

Q: How quickly can I expect them to be gone?

A: You can expect to see at 50% reduction in 2 days and 90%-100% reduction in 7-10 days.

Q: What happens if they come back?
